These k-Rated transformers should be specified where there will be some    harmonic content created by computers or other electronic equipment.

TPK Transformers - k-rated and NEMA TP1

In the modern electrical environment, electronic and electrical components such as computers, printers, copiers and HID lighting draw current in pulses rather than continuously. This nonlinear load creates both additional losses (see IEEE 519 for details) and unwanted distortion caused by harmonics. A K-Factor rating applied to a transformer is an index of the transformers ability to handle harmonic content in its load current while operating within its temperature limits.

The Thormag Power TPK configuration is the perfect all round transformer for today's energy applications. Not only is it K-rated to handle the harmonic content safely, it is designed to meet the NEMA TP1 energy efficient standard while feeding this harmonic rich load. This ensures that the customer saves energy dollars over the life of the product when compared to general K-rated transformers.
